Aim of tool/ Brief overall description
The Entrance interview as a diagnostic tool was implemented within the framework of the european APT project (2003-2006) and in the TICKLE project enriched by intercultural topics, which make the instrument more valuable towards the needs of  the teacher trainees and connected intercultural issues.

Goals:

  • An improvement in the quality of teacher training geared towards incorporating the needs of the teacher trainees (general evaluation)
  • Documentation of individual intercultural learning (personal diagramme)

The entrance interview fills  the gap between the study period  at the University of Education and the second phase – the 18 months course in the Seminar. It helps to identify the areas of existing knowledge, acquired skills, abilities, competence and experience in school during the study period.  The sequence of events is as follows:

  • In February, at the beginning of their training, the teacher trainees complete the entrance interview I
  • After the evaluation of the interview, the teacher trainers offer instruction based on the needs of the trainees
  • Each trainee receives a paper version of the interview 9 months later. Trainees are asked to complete the interview in retrospect with the February data (personal evaluation)
  • Teacher trainees complete interview II in December . At the same time, a paper version is also completed.
  • Now each trainee can develop his/her individual diagram of learning over a period of 9 months

Description of the process and the possible stepping stones
It is important to compare the two interview results together with the trainee. It is evident, that during the 9 month learning attitudes and meanings may have changed dramatically. It is also important to discuss an individual working plan after the comparision of the results, so that each trainee finds its own road of learning.
