Aim of tool/ Brief overall description

    Aim of the tools:

    • enable contact and build a common ground in the group,
    • find out what makes me special, allow the outcoming of the original representations, to take a stand to the reality of the classroom and to the presence of different communities in the classes, to become aware of the fact that the educational system in which they are going to work has taken a political choice,
    • allow a cultural self awareness of their future pupils in the classes where they will work,
    • Approach (based on the scientific background of…….)

    Survey (a sociological kind of)
    It was important for us to enter the work with the students and teacher trainees in building from what they are, to allow them to enter the notion of complexity and to build with them a common culture.

    Target group, which could use the tool

    Students in educational sciences (future teachers) for the first questionnaire (results of the questionnaire)
    Teacher trainees for the second questionnaire (results of the questionnaire)
    Teacher trainers (questionnaires and their results)

Main methods

The students will work individually when they answer the questionnaire and in small groups or in the complete group when they receive, analyze and discuss the results of the questionnaires.

 

 

Description of the process and the possible stepping stones

  • answering the questionnaire,
  • collecting the information,
  • quantitative et qualitative exploitation of the questionnaires (the answers of the questioned persons must be kept as a clue or a positioning regulator),
  • returning to the group the collected answers,
  • débatting on main lines choosen by the teacher trainer (such as agreements and discrepancies of ideas).
Description of the process and the possible outcome of the tool

In our opinion this tool will allow to demonstrate that the question of interculturality is a very sensitive one which is strongly discussed in the world of education as well as outside of the educational world. This question goes much further as the notion of syllabus. This question will allow the teacher trainers to tackle the notion of values to be passed on and the definition of the trades of teachers with future teachers.

Stepping stones, which should be kept in mind, while doing it………
  • Do not use the questionnaires without the results.
  • Work in small groups to let the students and teacher trainees analyze and discuss the results of the questionnaires.
  • Construct attitudes and tools for the class with groups of teacher trainees.

Give precise orders to work on: the points which bring us together and those on which we can't reciprocate.

Equipment

      • Time with the students or teacher trainees to answer the questions of the two questionnaires.
      • Time for the teacher trainers to analyze, to work out the results of the questionnaires.
